Pew Center: 1 in 100 Americans Behind Bars

A major report from the Pew Center is out today noting the sad statistic that 1 in 100 adults is now locked up in jail or prison in this country. The report is called One in 100: Behind Bars in America 2008 (pdf).

The report also has a helpful breakdown of how that already daunting figure becomes even more dramatic when one looks at the racial dynamics:
